Great Post Game Interviews with Lobo Players

If you are not from NM, or understand Lobo Basketball, you may not realize how big of a win the game at BYU was. Growing up in NM, going to Lobo games since I was 9 years old, I can tell you, it was one of the biggest wins in NM history. To give you a little hint of the enormity of what is going on in Loboland, the day after the win over 1000 fans (some estimate 2000) showed up at the airport to welcome back the team.

Yeah, this is a special time to be a Lobo fan!

Here are some great post game interviews from guys on the team:

It Is Fun To Be A Lobo

I have had the privilege of being the chaplain for the UNM Men's Basketball team for the past 3 seasons. This season has been a very special one for the team. They are currently 26-3 and heading for a huge showdown on Saturday in Provo, UT, against BYU. They are currently ranked #10 in the A.P. and the nation is taking notice.

USA Today featured a story about them today.

Here is an excerpt:
The chemistry is unreal," Alford says. "It's as good as I've had."

Selection Sunday for the NCAA tournament is 17 days away, and the Lobos are all but guaranteed an invitation for the first time since 2005. That's surprising because the season began with uncertainty. For one, the Lobos were inexperienced. The team's three leading scorers, who helped New Mexico reach the NIT's second round, had graduated, leaving one senior: Roman (row-MAHN) Martinez, a 6-6 forward who had deferred to others in the past but is the second-leading scorer and rebounder with averages of 13.9 points and 6.3 rebounds.

Apolo Ohno's Disciplined Training for Olympics

We all want to be part of something great, right? The question is, are we disciplined like this?

Doug Wolter says this:

This is one of my favorite events: short track speed skating. Amazing how they train! Made me think of the verses in 1 Cor. 9:25:

Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

Do I Smell Another Matthew McConaughey Movie??

This looks like a future movie, you know the kind "based on a true story".

From CNN:
EASTON, Pennsylvania (CNN) -- It's been dubbed the No. 1 high school rivalry in the United States. But last decade, Phillipsburg High School and Easton Area High School left the football field without a clear winner: a 7-7 tie

Back then, there was no overtime in high school games, and it's stung ever since. In gridiron parlance, it's known as "kissing your sister."

"I didn't know how to feel, stopping the end of my high school career being on a tie," said Bruce Lebitz, an inside linebacker for the 1993 Phillipsburg team.

That's about to change. The gridiron grudge match will be played this weekend. There will be no ties this time around. They're even breaking a century-old Turkey Day tradition, all in the name of who gets the bragging rights from that night so many years ago.

The players are now grown men in their early 30s. Hair is starting to turn gray, and waistlines have expanded. Some are family men, and most have full-time jobs. They had eight weeks to get back in game shape, and most jumped at the chance.

Some More of Michael Jordan

Z had a post last week that made me aware about a new generation that sees the #23 and thinks Lebron...WRONG!!!

#23 will always and forever symbolize Michael "Air" Jordan the greatest player ever. Maybe in 13 years we can debate Lebron's greatness, although Jordan never lost in the Finals. James is a great player, Jordan is a Legendary Icon.

Here is a taste of what I mean:

Boston vs Chicago, Bird vs Jordan

In honor of my trip to Chicago, as well as the current 1st round NBA playoffs between Chicago and Boston, here is a little trip down memory lane courtesy of ESPN.
